ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I am a native of Indiana and an emeritus professor of biological sciences. As a landscape photographer I like the vernacular, the local qualities that provide a place’s character. My portfolios, from across America, are about native elements that are both commonplace and distinctive. My photography is formalist, and its images are clean and specific. The vernacular architecture of the mid-19th century holds particular interest for me. These buildings continue to speak forthrightly of an exuberant young America. My favorite work is of the South. I think of it as mainstream southern photography: images as vessels for narrative; about the old and the ordinary; faithful to its subjects; and carrying the gravitas of southern history.” Don Norris, Hattiesburg, Mississippi
