Myra Hamilton Green (1924 - 2002)

Artist Myra Green was born in Tennessee in 1924. Green took classes at the Art Students’ League in New York City and attended Virginia Intermont College. After marrying her husband Josh, they moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she joined the Mississippi Artist Colony and taught workshops at both Belhaven and Millsaps colleges. Her daughter Lynn Green Root was also a painter, and they both exhibited regularly around the state.

A book celebrating Myra Green and Lynn Green Root was written by Patti Carr Black in 2008 titled Breathing Art: The Lives and Art of Myra Hamilton Green and Lynn Green Root. Both artists are widely collected and have work in the permanent collection of the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson.
